Best Warhammer 40K and Age of Sigmar Proxy Miniatures in the UK

Yes, you can get 3D-printed Warhammer 40,000 and Age of Sigmar proxy miniatures in the UK, printed to order at 28/32mm heroic scale starting from £5.99 per model. At TabletopXtra we stock finished resin prints from licensed designers including DakkaDakka.Store (grimdark infantry and conversion bits), Grey Tide Studio (Space Marine upgrade parts), DMG Minis (sci-fi characters) and Artisan Guild (fantasy armies for AoS). Every model is printed and dispatched from the UK.

What does "proxy miniature" mean in Warhammer and AoS?

A proxy is a miniature that stands in for a unit it was not originally made for. Players use them to test army lists before buying official kits, to give a force a distinctive appearance, or to bring the cost of a large collection down. GW's own rules allow proxies at casual, open and narrative play. Tournament organisers set their own policies; most independent events and club nights accept "counts as" models, provided they match the correct base size and are clearly identified to opponents.

Are 3D-printed proxy miniatures legal to own in the UK?

Owning and painting a 3D-printed miniature is entirely legal in the UK. The legal question in the hobby centres on the digital design files used to produce models, not the printed objects themselves. At TabletopXtra every model we ship is produced from files licensed to us by our 21 commissioned designers, so there is no legal issue with buying or using them at your table.

The ranges we carry are printed to order at 28/32mm heroic scale to match standard 40K base sizes. Models are produced in SLA resin, dispatched cleaned, cured and quality-checked.

Astra Militarum and infantry proxies

DakkaDakka.Store's Imperial Soldiers and Steam Guard lines give you grimdark infantry with the feel of Death Korps of Krieg or a custom regiment. The Dawnguard Infantry Squad runs £12.99 for five troopers plus a leader, or £20.99 for ten. A Special Weapons upgrade kit costs £5.99 separately. For command models, the Blood Commissar (£8.99) and Female Commissar (£6.99) are both single-model 28/32mm prints that add character without the premium of named GW characters.

Space Marine conversion bits

If you already own GW multipart plastic marines, resin conversion bits are the most cost-effective way to build a unique chapter. Grey Tide Studio produces three distinct ranges for this:

  • Eternal Pilgrims: crusading space-knight aesthetic, with heads, shoulder pads, melee weapons and backpacks suited to a Templar or Crusade chapter.
  • Primal Hounds: feral Space Wolf-flavour parts, with big helmets, toothed chainswords and two-handed axes from £6.99 for five to ten pieces.
  • Crimson Lords: elaborate armour with Blood Angel-style decoration. The Crimson Lords Core Upgrade Pack is £19.99 for a full squad's worth of conversion parts.

All Grey Tide Studio bits are SLA resin at 28/32mm. See the full range on Grey Tide Studio's MyMiniFactory profile.

Grey Knights, Inquisition and special characters

DMG Minis produce some of the most detailed sci-fi sculpts in our catalogue. Their Silver Wardens faction works well as Grey Knight and terminator proxies, and the Dread Walker Demon Slayer Knight Deluxe (£42.99) makes a striking centrepiece. For Inquisition or Assassin characters, the Intelligencia faction covers the Inquisition Mistress (£15.99) and two Vindicatorial Assassin variants (£12.99 each), all at 28/32mm. See the full DMG Minis range.

For AoS-scale forces, Artisan Guild is our strongest option. Their ball-joint modular system means models from different monthly releases share the same joint standard, so you can mix warriors, heroes and monsters from separate sets into one coherent army. The table below matches their ranges to specific AoS factions. All are available at 28/32mm, with 35mm and 40mm options on many sets:

AoS faction (proxy target) Artisan Guild range Price
Ironjawz / Kruleboyz / Orruks Blackcrag Orcs Full Set £199.99
Fyreslayers / Duardin armies Frostmetal Clan Full Set £79.99
Wanderers / Sylvaneth Sylvan Knight Full Set £69.99

Frequently asked questions

Can I use 3D-printed proxies at a Warhammer 40K or AoS tournament?
Tournament policies vary. Official Games Workshop Grand Tournaments require Citadel miniatures. Most independent and club events permit "counts as" proxies, provided the model has the correct base size and is clearly identified. Check with your tournament organiser before attending.

Are 3D-printed minis the same scale as GW models?
Yes. Our standard print is 28/32mm heroic scale, matching Warhammer 40,000 and Age of Sigmar. Many products are also available at 35mm and 40mm.

How long does delivery take in the UK?
We print to order. Allow approximately 5-10 business days for production, then 2-3 days for standard UK delivery. If you have a deadline, message us and we'll give you our current lead time.

What resin do you use, and how does it compare to GW plastic?
Infantry and characters are printed in SLA/MSLA resin. Detail reproduction is comparable to, and in many cases finer than, GW's Finecast, with smaller layer lines. Terrain is printed in FDM PLA for durability.

Do I need to prime 3D-printed resin minis before painting?
Yes. All resin models need a primer coat before paint goes on. Spray primer (grey or white) works well on most models; brush-on primer gives better control on very fine detail. Our models arrive fully cured and clean, ready to prime straight from the packet.
